Thanks to a fine crew of locals and Alaska Wildland Adventures staff the Bean Creek Footpath is re-opened after many beetle-killed Spruce deadfalls had closed it down. The Bean Creek Footpath allows you to travel from the Community Club Hall grounds to Bean Creek itself. This charming little footpath begins off the northwest corner of the volleyball pitch across from our recycling center and meanders between Bean Creek Road and the Kenai River. It offers lovely forest walking, occasional views of the Kenai River, and a chance to get off the roadway for a while. From east to west, when you come to the first culvert you do have to go up onto the shoulder of the road for less than 50 yards to avoid a sensitive wetland. You cut back down just beyond where a washout occurred. You can tuck back down toward the river on a section of the Old Sterling Highway that heads to the confluence of Bean Creek and the Kenai River. From there it swings back along Bean Creek to the road again. The footpath is not a built trail so expect it to be narrow and a bit rough in that you’ll negotiate roots and rocks and it’s a bit steep where you have go up and down the embankment to the road if you choose to walk the whole route. Check it out. You may be surprised at what a nice walk it is.
